According to ATHARVA VEDA, the basic Universal source of energy is Sun (Agni), another one is oxygen (pranavayu) even water (jala) to be considered third and then the food (anna). That simply means breathing is one of the important vital sources of our energy. Our body is regenerating all the time in terms of cells and no regeneration can happen in absence of oxygen. Pranayama means various breathing exercises, is the most efficient way to get oxygen in proper way as it reaches each and every cell. So Breathing or we can say Deep Breathing will help our cells to regenerate or energise each and every micro cell.
- Concept of Resistance Power:
The good resisting power is a result of high energy of each cell. The process from which cells generate the energy and for this process to take place, oxygen is essential. The lower amount of oxygen in body will lead to decrease in this process resulting low energy level that means Low resisting power. Hence it directly or indirectly depends on the amount of oxygen in the body. As we know low oxygen amount in cells will have the highest chances of infections as cells will not have enough energy to fight those organisms so we call it as Low resistance power of the body.
- Role of Pranayama:
- Mechanism behind Pranayama
In pranayama, with various breathing patterns and techniques, we inhale a greater amount of air; approximately 5 times more oxygen is consumed by us while breathing exercise. In general breathing, we use around 30% of our lung capacity and while pranayama we use 60 to 75% of our lung capacity. This ultimately means that, more oxygen reaches to the deeper level of lung tissues. As the airflow to the lungs increases, each and every cell of the lung get the oxygen and ultimately oxygen level in the blood is increases.
- How it grows Resistance power:
As the oxygen level in the blood in increased, the each and every tissue, cell and microcell of our body now gets a good supply of rich oxygen. When the cells get good oxygen amount then they release the toxins accumulated in the cell to the blood and they regenerate and restores themselves. It gives then a high energy which result in a good resistance power against any microorganism. As well as in pranayama, we inhale then hold the breath for some seconds and then release; when we hold the breath our cells get enough time to release toxins and CO2 and detoxify themselves. Overall those things result in the good resistance power on the cells and ultimately our body.
- Mental relaxation with pranayama:
There is intimate relation between the breath and the brain and their cyclic actives. When one nostril has the dominant air flow the opposite hemisphere of the brain is dominated. Forceful breathing through the more congested nostril awakens the less dominant hemisphere which relaxes, activates your brain and mind which will give you mental stability. The pituitary gland situated in the brain i.e. hypothalamus is the king gland of all endocrine glands and when it gets enough oxygen to work smoothly then all endocrine glands function in a proper manner. Also, when we breathe; the pressure variations in our thoracic cavity result in the greater blood flow toward the brain and the blood is oxygenated enough. When the brain gets oxygenated blood each neuron of brain, each cell of brain restores, regenerates and hence it increasing the mental capacity, relaxes the mind.
- When to do breathing exercises:
The Breathing exercises must be done at morning time in an open ground as morning time will give you both Sunlight, the primary source of energy and higher amount of Ozone i.e. oxygen which will lead to detoxify the toxins from each micro cell and energise them with high amount of oxygen which will result in High immunity of your body.
So overall, Pranayama increases the lung’s airflow, air capacity, stamina and efficiency. Scientific research is showing that mindful breathing – paying attention to your breath and learning how to manipulate it, is one of the most effective ways to lower everyday stress levels and improve a variety of health factors ranging from mood to metabolism. “Pranayama is at once a physical-health practice, mental-health practice, and meditation. It is not just breathe training; its mind training that uses the breath as a vehicle.
