- In Ayurveda, food is not just nourishment-it is medicine when chosen wisely.
- Parkinson’s disease , described in Ayurveda as Kampavata.
- It is primarily a Vata-dominant neurological disorder.
- The key to its dietary management lies in consuming warm, soft, unctuous, and easily digestible foods that nourish the nervous system and maintain digestive balance (Agni).
- The following Diet plan offers a variety of simple meal options that can be easily incorporated into daily life, making long-term care both effective and enjoyable.
Daily Morning Routine ( Around 6 to 6:30 am )
- 1 glass of Warm water ,
- 4–5 soaked almonds (peeled) OR
- 10-12 Soaked raisins (for bowel regulation) OR
- 1 cup of Dry ginger water OR
- 1 cup of Jeera-ajwain water OR
- 1 cup of Coriander water .
Breakfast ( Around 8 to 8:30 am )
- 1-2 Moong dal chilla + ghee OR
- 1 Small bowl of Vegetable daliya OR
- 1 bowl of Tulsi & shatavari millet upama
- OR
- 1 plate of soft poha OR
- 1 bowl of Amalaki & Ragi porridge (with milk + black pepper) OR
- 1 bowl of Rice yavagu with ghee and pinch of black pepper .(a thin rice porridge made by cooking rice in extra water until soft and slightly soupy)
Mid-Morning ( Around 10:30 to 11 am )
- Any one seasonal fruit ( Like ripe banana , Apple , papaya etc…) OR
- Glass of coconut water .
Lunch ( Around 12:00 to 12:30 pm)
- 2 satvik roti with cow ghee + bowl of moong dal + 1 bowl of lauki/pumpkin sabzi / lauki coriander detox stew.
- OR
- 1 bowl of Rice + 1 bowl of toor dal + 1 bowl of carrot/beet sabzi + small portion of curd . OR
- 2-3 Soft thepla (methi/dudhi) + ghee OR
- 1bowl of Masoor dal + 2 satvik roti / bowl of rice.
# Add hing, garlic, cumin into the recipe for better digestion.
Evening Snack ( Around 4:00 to 5:00 pm)
- Cup of Ginger-tulsi tea. OR
- 2 -3 Piece of Fenugreek sukhadi .OR
- 1 bowl of Roasted makhana with ghee.OR
- Til / Gond ladoo / energy bar. OR
- 1-2 Medium sized boiled sweet potato.OR
- 1 bowl of vegetable soup ( like bottle gourd / carrot… )
Dinner ( Around 7 to 8 pm )
- 1 bowl of Moong dal khichdi OR
- 1 bowl of Agni Rakshak supper bowl .OR
- Bowl of thin dal + bowl of OR
- Vegetable soup/ sabji + soft roti OR
- Bowl of Oats vegetable porridge OR
- Quinoa bowl.
Bedtime ( Around 9:30 to 10 pm )
- Glass of Warm milk + 1 tsp ghee.
Optional: pinch of nutmeg.
Foods to Avoid
- Dry and rough foods (like khakhra,mamara, chips)
- Cold and refrigerated food
- Excess raw salads
- Bakery and processed foods
- Irregular eating habits
Tips –
Daily intake of warm, freshly prepared meals along with regular oil massage (Abhyanga) helps in calming aggravated Vata and supports overall neurological health in Kampavata.
