Padma Bhushan Dr P. K. Warrier, Doyen of Ayurveda passed away on July 10, 2021, one month after celebrating his 100th birthday (Satapoornima) on June 8th 2021. He assumed charge as Managing Trustee of Arya Vaidya Sala Kottakkal in 1954 and was leading the institution for the last 67 years. He was one of the most senior practising Physicians of the country and has played a historical role in invigorating the traditional practices of Ayurveda by his significant contributions to research and innovative experiments. He took this holistic science of health care to distant shores of the world.
He was a much sought after clinician of international repute and a large number of patients with debilitating ailments from every walk of life and from every corner of the world have benefited from his most compassionate healing touch. He was a recipient of many national and international awards including Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri from President of India in 2010 and 1999 respectively. Dr P. K. Warrier was leading a simple life according to the principles of Ayurveda, and strictly followed dinacharya, natural diet, yoga and exercise.
Arya Vaidya Sala
Arya Vaidya Sala is a 119-year-old charitable trust established at Kottakkal, Malappuram Dist. Kerala in 1902 by illustrious visionary Vaidyaratnam P S Varier, who has started it initially as a village clinic. Arya Vaidya Sala has now grown into a multi-unit, multidisciplinary and multi-crore organization with a significant presence in clinical service, medicine manufacture, drug distribution, research, education, medicinal plant cultivation and book publication.
