Tulsi has been used in India from ancient times. It is mainly used for traditional pooja, vedic ceremonies, and also used in ayurvedic science as a holy medicine.
Tulsi is also considered as the avatar of goddess lakshmi. If Tulsi leaves are consumed in brahmamuhurta i.e., in between 3 am – 6 am it is very beneficial in enhancing the health.
Tulsi has basically two types:
- Shri Tulsi
- Krishna Tulsi
Both these varieties are useful medically. Shri Tulsi the leaves are much greenery whereas Krishna Tulsi the leaves are a little darker.
There are many uses of Tulsi:
- Applying the paste of Tulsi leaves to hair weekly once and washing it, it can prevent the falling of hair, early grey hair, and it also prevents dandruff. Taking three to four leaves of Tulsi everyday in the early morning in an empty stomach can reduce the blood sugar level in the body hence it can make better control of diabetes. In case of excess body weight or obesity, taking the juice of 5 leaves of Tulsi early in the morning in an empty stomach can reduce the calories in the body and be helpful for maintaining body weight.
- The people who are suffering from heart diseases can chew the Tulsi leaves, which is very helpful in giving strength to the heart and enhancing heart functions. Applying the paste of Tulsi leaves along with water to the face and leaving it for ten minutes doing it weakly twice can reduce acne or pimples of face and it will reduce the dark pigmentation or hyperpigmentation of face.
- As it is a rainy season and flu and common cold, cough, sore throat is very common so taking 4 drops of Tulsi along with one cup of warm water daily will enhance the immunity of the body. Children who could be having low immunity power and who are prone to develop repeated and frequent respiratory infections giving Tulsi drops is very beneficial in preventing these respiratory infections. It can increase the oxygen levels in the blood so people who are suffering from bronchial asthma, allergic bronchitis can use Tulsi drops daily.
- Application of paste of Tulsi leaves on wounds will heal the wounds quickly. Chewing the Tulsi leaves will give strength to the gums and teeth. Hence eating Tulsi leaves is very useful for gum and teeth disorders. In case of mouth ulcers application of Tulsi leaves paste and chewing the Tulsi leaves will heal the mouth ulcers.
- In case of lack of breast milk in lactating mothers, taking the Tulsi leaves daily will increase the breast milk production. It is also useful in kidney stones elimination. It is also useful in liver disorders so the people who are suffering from liver diseases can use Tulsi leaves which can enhance the effect of detoxification of the liver.
- In case of chronic eczema or chronic dermatitis and in case of fungal infections using the decoction of Tulsi leaves is very effective.
- Tulsi is rich in vitamin A and vitamin C and hence it is very useful in preventing early aging.
Moreover the Tulsi plant can grow in a pot and need not have great space to grow it and hence its easily available too. Tulsi is a wonderful holy drug and by using it in a proper way we can enhance our health.
