It was a cool breezy Sunday. Minu lazily scrawled from her mattress. Half torn bed sheet has another tear, maybe I have stretched more in half part of the bedsheet. Today I should go to muthu tailor and get it stitched. With these thoughts, Minu got out of bed and with utmost care, folded her blankets. Minu was a 10 year old with a triplet family consisting of her younger brother, maari and mother lakshmi. Her father died when she was 5 years old, but in her mother’s views, her father became a part of maariyamman – their village temple deity. Since her father’s death Lakshmi did every work to support minu and maari. Evening times was specially dedicated for maariyamman temple situated on top of vibhooti mountain. Lakshmi held a small shop of Pooja or offerings for temple visit with a bowl of flowers and coconut. On Sundays, the shop was handled by Minu as she had no schools on the same day. The shop was amidst a green grass mountain with yellow marigold flowers. As it was also a tourist spot, people were out on Sundays. As it was a green grass yard, Lakshmi’s three cows will be surplus eating green grass. As there was sufficient green grass, none of the villagers had to pay an extra amount for cow’s feed. The village was bestowed with nature’s beauty in every aspect – hence called as sundari bhommi village.
That Sunday Minu headed to Pooja shop at Vibhooti mountain, and the sight shocked her. All the green grass were ashes now, covered with black soot powder everywhere, leaving signs of forest fire. Following days were difficult for humans & cows due to nonavailability of fresh green grass & lack of tourists. Day after the fire breakage, Minu found a petrol can and a half-burnt matchstick. She was suspicious but revealed nothing.
Few months passed; it was another greener side of sundari bhommi village. One evening on a dark day, Minu was closing the shop, sounds of bullets & loud laughs made her turn around. It was a group of six men with 3 bullets heading towards the green mountain. To her astonishment, the shorter one among them took a can and poured some liquid all over the green grass and took out his lighter, lit a cigarette, puffed two smokes, and threw the cigarette. Unsatisfied, he lit the lighter, spread the fire and fled with his friends from the mountain. Minu gazed at everything in hiding but screamed and cried out for help from villagers. Fire was extinguished in a few minutes. Culprits were arrested by Minu as eyewitnesses and two petrol cans were obtained with Minu’s help. Once again, the green grass was brighter, Minu became a hero savior of the village, people started calling her Soundari Minu.
Our nature is also a beautiful lady, but villains come as fire, attack, and leave as black soot earth. Hence, we all can be Minu protecting the green beauty!!
This environment day,
We will know some of the projects by Governments for a greener earth!
Global Carbon project:
Knowledge of greenhouse gas for human activities & earth system. Global budgets for three dominant greenhouse gasses – carbon dioxide, methane & nitrous oxide. This activity is for environment conservation, energy efficiency or renewable energy which reduce greenhouse gas and contribute to mitigate climate change.
Any person with their own land will be benefited with it. Funding depends on the environment purity obtained.
The Great Green Wall Project
Project adopted by Africa in 2007, to combat desertification in the Sahel region & hold back expansion of the Sahara Desert, by planting a wall of trees stretching across the entire Sahel. It will promote water harvesting, greenery protection and improving indigenous land use techniques.
GEF (Global Environment Facility)
is a multilateral fund dedicated to confronting biodiversity loss, climate change, pollution and strains on land and ocean health. In the past decades, millions of amounts were provided for regional and peripheral projects.
Global Tree Project
Planting more seeds & seedlings.
National Seed Project
For good quality seed at reasonable price and time in agriculture.
These are few of the projects which yields best for a greener nature.
