DIABETES
A disease very common in today’s life. We see many people around us suffering from this problem, which is not so serious at first but can get worse if left untreated or undiagnosed. Diabetes is basically an uncontrolled fluctuating level of sugar in blood caused due to reasons like genetics, family history, pregnancy, sedentary lifestyle leading to obesity. Obesity is one of the major causes of diabetes. It’s a disorder involving excessive body fat increase in body. This happens when more calories are consumed than are burned.
Diabetes most often develops in people over age 45 years or more, but more and more children, teens and young adults are also developing it. Many factors are being involved for this some are, regular consumption of junk food, full of preservative, additives which when enter the gut causes a lot of health issues in body, the food we are consuming now a days is not in pure form, it consist of pesticides, weedicides, and many more chemicals which are a great threat to us these all leads to many physiological alterations leading to liver diseases, heart problems, kidney failures, lung diseases due to pollutants, and also some brain related complications in severe diseases.
Proper diet and lifestyle, eating consciously, and regular exercise can cure obesity to some extent. Obesity usually increases insulin resistance, causing diabetes. These 2 complications can further lead to long-term chronic diseases like heart, kidney related problems and also may damage eyes, nerves and blood vessels too.
New parents now a days which themselves are in age of 25 to 35 are not having a healthy lifestyle , getting involved in overeating junk foods like cheese, oil, butter, refined flour, packaged food in plastic cans which can be carcinogenic, activities like clubbing etc, due to these things new parents are not able to give enough attention to children therefore altering their habits of eating, continuous long screen time hammering their physical and mental development leading to problems like obesity and diabetes in very young age. Hence proper attention, care and consciously handling children is very important in this time where children are easily exposable to unhealthy food and lifestyle.
Diet
Diet and exercise play an important role. Eating in the right way and quantity will always help in maintaining health and controlling the causes. High fiber diet including protein rich supplements like Turmeric, Amla, Arjuna, Jwar, Bajra chapati, and whole grains are good options for lowering cholesterol.
Methi dana, Adrak Tulsi, Lavang, Nagarmotha, Bilva, cinnamon, Ginger are some other supplements which are easily available at home. Protein rich food with good fat and high fibre and low level of cholesterol and sugar should be incorporated in diet. Leafy vegetables, green veggies like broccoli, berries, oatmeal, nuts, yogurt should be incorporated in a diet for a healthy body. Regular yoga, meditation, exercise, sports reduce stress level and increase the body’s stamina and metabolism thus helping in coping up with these complications.
Lifestyle Modification for Diabetes:
Consulting doctor, Staying hydrated, regular blood sugar levels checkup, and most important yogas like surya namaskar, bhujangasana, ardha matsyendra asana.
Surya namaskar improves blood circulation, helps regulate sugar levels. Also releases tension held in chest and core muscles due to stress associated with managing diabetes and due to elevated heart rate, it helps in weight loss leading to lowered blood sugar and improved insulin sensitivity.
Pranayam like bhastrika increases metabolism and uptake of sugar in peripheral tissues hence reducing blood sugar levels.
Mudras like prana mudra are good options. Touch the tips of the ring and middle finger together and hold it for 5 minutes, repeat it 3 times. This posture helps regulate blood sugar levels, improves digestion, and promotes purification of blood.
Lifestyle Modification for Obesity:
Eating healthy, calorie deficit diet, sleeping on time, exercise like aerobics, pranayam (kapalbhati),
Asana: bhujangasana, setubandha sarvangasana, surya namaskar, dhanurasana, asana brings body to perfect shape and size reducing unwanted extra fat around body. They increase blood circulation and metabolism of stored fat hence reducing the extra fat around the body.
Some yoga poses for belly fat loss are – shashankasana, ardha pincha mayurasana (dolphin pose), vasisthasana (side forearm plank), phalakasana(forearm plank).
All these asanas, when done in specific posture for specific organs, increase circulation of that part of the body, increasing fat uptake and reducing fat, hence curing obesity.
