Jamnagar, January 17, 2025 – The Government of India has appointed Dr. Umesh Modi as a Director of the National Turmeric Board (NTB) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, as announced by Union Minister Piyush Goyal.
Headquartered in Nizamabad, Telangana, the NTB aims to promote turmeric cultivation, research, processing,
and marketing across 20 states. It seeks to enhance farmer welfare, boost exports, and raise awareness of
turmeric’s medicinal benefits. The board includes representatives from multiple ministries and rotating state
members.
Dr. Modi, an expert in Ayurveda and medicinal research, is expected to strengthen India’s global turmeric
trade. As the world’s largest producer and exporter, India recorded USD 226.5 million in turmeric exports in
2023-24. The board will focus on expanding exports and improving farmer opportunities.
