In Ayurveda, the kidneys are seen as the seat of Apana Vata and Mutravaha Srotas ,pathways responsible for urine formation and elimination.
When Pitta or Ama accumulate due to spicy food, dehydration or stress, symptoms such as burning urination, bloating, and water retention appear.
This gentle stew of lauki (bottle gourd) and fresh coriander soothes the urinary tract, supports kidney function, and maintains prostate comfort.
Ingredients (serves 2)
- Lauki (bottle gourd) -1 cup (peeled & cubed)
- Fresh coriander leaves -½ cup(finely chopped)
- Cumin seeds -½ tsp
- Hing (Asafoetida) – 1 pinch
- Turmeric (Haridra – ¼ tsp
- Fennel seeds -¼ tsp
- Ginger -½ inch
- Rock salt -to taste
- Cow’s ghee – 1 tsp
- Water -2 cups
- Lemon Juice – ½ tsp (optional)
Method of Preparation-
- In a pan, warm the ghee and splutter cumin and fennel seeds.
- Add a pinch of hing and turmeric, stir until fragrant.
- Add grated or finely chopped ginger,saute lightly.
- Add lauki pieces and saute for 2–3 minutes.
- Pour in water, cover, and simmer until lauki turns soft.
- Add salt and chopped coriander leaves,cook 2 minutes more.
- Turn off the flame and add lemon juice before serving warm.

Tip:
Can start a day with a glass of Gokshura & Barley Water for gentle kidney detox and urinary balance.
Boil 1 tbsp barley with 1 tsp coriander seeds and ½ tsp Gokshura powder in 2 cups water until it reduces to half, strain and add a pinch of rock salt.
Drink warm for better urinary flow, reduced water retention, and cooling of Pitta.
