Winter winds curb the natural moisture of the skin and make it tight, dry, chapped, and irritated. Dipping yourself in different moisturizers can work only up to a certain extent. Skin care needs to be addressed both externally and internally. Herbal remedies naturally protect and enhance the health of our skin. Here are some effective tips to care for your skin during this harsh winter.
- Oil massage – Oil massage is the best treatment for dry skin. Sesame oil, coconut oil and almond oil can be used for massaging 20 minutes before heading for the shower. For best results, medicated oils can be preferred with expert advice. Massage improves blood circulation and thereby makes skin healthy, firm, supple, and firm. Don’t forget to massage the feet as this helps keep feet soft and moisturized.
- Cleansing – It is important to cleanse your skin to keep it clean and fresh. Choosing mild ayurvedic soaps, cleansers, or Bath powders with ingredients like aloe vera, natural oils, glycerine, honey, coconut milk, etc can be used. - Exfoliation – Gentle exfoliation removes dead skin and helps in new skin regeneration. Rice flour, sugar, walnut powder, etc along with natural oils or honey can be used for exfoliation. Taking bath with bath powders makes this step much easier as it not only helps in mild exfoliation but also cleanses the skin.
- Don’t forget to take care of your lips during winter. Dry and chapped lips are common in winter. Natural lip balms made of butter and oils rescue the lips from dryness and dehydration.
- Drink an adequate quantity of water – Keep yourself hydrated by drinking 7-8 glasses of water daily.
