We have always given a lot of importance to, what we want to eat, How we want to make our heart strong, How we want to breathe, but this is the time our Immune System are disease-fighting ability, the system that determines How strong we are, How resistant our systems are to fight such infections which are around.
The immune system has caught lots of attention of lots of people. So, What are the components we are talking about?
We have lymph nodes around the body centres where the fighting happens between invaders and an army of soldiers (WBC). There is a fluid which is circulating all around the body 24*7.
That is carrying all other debris from our cell, then we have certain organs like tonsils, thymus in centre of the chest, Appendix in the stomach, the big organ which is spleen and all these things work together to fight and bring out our Immunity System.
There is one major difference between the circulating system that circulates blood all over and the lymphatic system that circulates lymph all over. The cardiovascular system has a pump which is the heart which keeps pumping to keep the fluid going through but, the lymphatic system does not really have a pump which can give the pressure to the fluid to go around the body. This is where our movement is so important. “MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE”.
When we move our muscles act as a pump for the lymphatic fluid to flow all around the body.
We can do some exercise to make the lymph fluid flow around the body:
1. Pulling the ears – Just pull the ears UP and DOWN slowly from where we wear our earrings. Hope you all remember the old punishment which we got in our school days.
2. Cycling with the ears like we are peddling them. Do it for about 9 minutes
3. Shoulder Pumping – Pull the shoulder UP breathe in and breath out and keep moving your shoulders UP and DOWN. Do it for about 2-3 rounds
These are the few very easy to do exercises to keep our lymphatic system flowing and functioning well at least we could cheer up our soldiers (WBC) fighting all the time.
Especially in these tough times, they need a boost from us.
