The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) successfully concluded the 1st International Conference on Psychosocial Support and Mental Health Services in Disaster Management held from October 10–12, 2025, at the NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bengaluru.
Organised by the Department of Psychosocial Support in Disaster Management (DPSSDM), the conference, themed “Beyond the Rubble: Building Resilience through Psychosocial Support,” brought together over 200 students, professionals, researchers, and policymakers from India and abroad to share evidence-based practices and innovative approaches in disaster mental health.
The Valedictory Ceremony, held on 12th October 2025, featured reflections on emerging opportunities in psychosocial support by Dr. K. Sekar, Senior Professor of Psychiatric Social Work and Consultant, DPSSDM. Mr. Ananda Galappatti, Magsaysay Laureate and Co-Director of MHPSS.net (Sri Lanka), delivered the Valedictory Address, emphasizing the importance of community-based and compassionate recovery models. The conference proceedings were announced, and prizes were awarded to the winners of the paper presentations, reaffirming that psychosocial well-being is central to resilience and recovery beyond the rubble.
